What happens if GPS does not work at a job site?

If GPS is unreliable but the team has connectivity, BetterDesks can use supervisor OTP attendance. Kiosk mode and offline punch sync are not available today.

If GPS is unreliable but the team has connectivity, BetterDesks can use supervisor OTP attendance. Kiosk mode and offline punch sync are not available today.

Detailed answer

Geofencing depends on two things: configured coordinates for the site and location access from the employee's device. If geofencing is enabled and the site is missing coordinates, BetterDesks blocks the clock action instead of silently bypassing the rule. If the employee is outside the allowed radius, the clock action is blocked.

For indoor, underground, or GPS-poor locations, the supported alternative is OTP attendance. An admin or scheduler creates a temporary passcode for a selected client and site, optionally tied to a shift.

If there is no internet connection at all, BetterDesks does not store offline punches for later sync today.

Example

A team works inside a large building where GPS accuracy is poor. Instead of using geofence enforcement for that shift, the supervisor creates an OTP passcode for the site. Employees use the passcode, and the resulting attendance records become timesheets for review.

How BetterDesks helps

BetterDesks gives teams a practical fallback for GPS-poor sites through supervisor OTP. Kiosk clock-in and offline sync are not available today.
